If you are interested in a quantitative approach to Neuroscience and Behaviour, come to visit us.
Students from Engineering, Physics and Mathematics and Biologists with a strong motivation for quantitative work are encouraged to contact Mikko: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Right now, we have two Ph.D. studentships open in our Sheffield laboratory, starting in summer 2018, and I am looking for suitable candidates for these posts. Rather than advertising some prefixed projects, I would like tailor these studentships to match a suitable person's research skills and interests. Could this be for you? Contact me (+44-114-2221087) for a chat.
When emailing Mikko please include a clear statement of research interests in addition to a full CV.
An exciting Ph.D. opportunity in our 2nd Laboratory in Beijing:
A Ph.D. studentship available to work on fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) visual learning and memory in the National Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning in Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China.
This 4-year Ph.D. project involves using state-of-the-art 3D video-rate 2-photon microscopy system to record neural signals in the Drosophila brain centres. A fly's brain activity will be recorded at single cell level, while it learns to associate rewards or punishments to visual objects, behaving on a track-ball in a virtual reality system.
The project will be co-supervised by Profs. Mikko Juusola, Fei Dou and Dajun Xin. This exciting cutting-edge project would be ideal for a student, who has background in physics, engineering or quantitative biology with strong interest in learning to understand the brain, using both experimental and theoretical approaches.
