An exciting Ph.D. opportunity in our 2nd Laboratory in Beijing:
A Ph.D. studentship available to work on fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) visual learning and memory in the National Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning in Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China.
This 4-year Ph.D. project involves using state-of-the-art 3D video-rate 2-photon microscopy system to record neural signals in the Drosophila brain centres. A fly's brain activity will be recorded at single cell level, while it learns to associate rewards or punishments to visual objects, behaving on a track-ball in a virtual reality system.
The project will be co-supervised by Profs. Mikko Juusola and Fei Dou. This exciting cutting-edge project would be ideal for a student, whose background is in physics, engineering or quantitative biology with a strong interest in learning to understand the brain, using both experimental and theoretical approaches.
